Nottingham University has specified Prochem ‘touch-free’ cleaning technology to its campuses in the city centre and outlying areas.

One of the UK’s leading universities, Nottingham has around 45,500 students and 7,000 staff. The University cleaning team sought a single system to clean, virtually touch-free, all bathrooms, changing rooms and shower areas on campus.

Midlands-based janitorial and machine supplier Candor Services won the contract to supply five Prochem CR2 (Complete Restroom Renovation) extraction machines with cleaning wands, chemical spray tanks and hand tools.

“Time was our client’s main enemy so a single source solution made sense and when we saw that the user environments were all wet areas, the CR2 became the logical choice,” says Candor Managing Director James Cooper.

“The University team were also impressed to learn that by attaching a cleaning wand the CR2 can be used to clean the sites’ carpet tiles.”

Prochem’s CR2 has the advantage of being based on proven technology sitting on the chassis of the popular Steempro Powermax workhorse, upgraded with a 500psi water pump and an auto-chemical dosing system.

The operator quarantines the area to be cleaned and sets up the machine at the doorway, filling the fresh water tank. The machines’ vacuum motor is used to blow dust and particles from the ceiling and high ledges onto the floor.

Then, by setting the dosing system to feed A257 Prochem Stone & Tile Clean solution via the pump at low psi setting, the toilets and shower cubicles are cleaned.

The floor is then scrubbed with the hard floor scrub wand, before turning off the chemical feed and rinsing the now cleaned areas with fresh water, but at a 500psi setting.

The floor can then be dried using the swivel headed scrub wand.
