When a major UK luxury car maker approached Prochem for advice on protecting new 100% wool carpet laid to its reception area, Sales & Technical Development Manager, Jon Ewing put the in-house cleaning team on the road with B130 Fluoroseal® CF.
Says Jon: “Some carpets don’t necessarily benefit from a protective treatment, but others, if they’re made from 100% wool or possibly nylon, certainly do.
“This is because they are deemed to be made from absorbent materials and any spills of liquid such as drinks and food, could permanently stain the material.”
And the cost starts to rack up when you’re looking after luxury carpet, at up to £100 per sq m, installed to nearly 2000 m² (approximately the size of one quarter of a football pitch), as in this case.
“This particular company welcomes many important and influential clients to its offices from the UK and all over the world and the first thing people see when they enter the building, of course, is the reception area carpet,” says Jon.

A trial piece of the new carpet was given to Prochem to pretest with B130 Fluoroseal CF against spills of coffee, tea, red wine – and especially champagne.
The results were later approved and it was authorised for use by the client.
B130 Fluoroseal CF is a fluoropolymer protector, which after application and curing time, coats and protects fibres against water and oil-based spillages. This makes the carpets easier to clean by not allowing the liquid spill to penetrate deep into the fibre.
Jon attended on the day of the application when the premises were closed, to oversee the treatment and ensure both the cleaning team and the client were happy with the process.
Firstly, the carpet was thoroughly vacuumed to remove any dry soil.

The second process was to lightly mist Prochem’s B109 Fibre & Fabric Rinse onto the carpet, to allow it to bond better with the protection treatment.
Finally, the third process was to apply the B130 Fluoroseal CF protector, directly to the carpet with an appropriate pump-up Birchmeier sprayer (fitted with a spray tip, 8004) in its ready-to-use format.
A couple of weeks later, when Jon made a follow-up call to check-in with the cleaning team since the application of the protector, they reported that they had been able to remove liquid spills which would previously have caused the reception carpet to be permanently stained.
Champagnes all round! (but not for the driver).
