Prochem Europe has further reduced the environmental impact of its products with the switch to a new 5L container design, 10g lighter than its predecessor.

“We use thousands of these containers every year so this move represents a significant reduction in the packaging weight of our products overall, with the associated environmental benefits of less packaging waste, and lower energy use in relation to the containers’ transport,” says Prochem Europe Chemical Product Manager, Paul Reynolds.

“The move to lighter packaging also accords with our commitment to the continuous improvement in the management of our environmental impact as made in our successful application for a Royal Warrant,” he adds.

Relatedly, Prochem has carried out a review of its recycling and waste disposal procedures.

Recycling cardboard, white paper and polythene waste produced at the company’s Chessington headquarters is a well-established procedure but the company has recently sought to further increase proportionally recyclable from general waste.

After discussions with a number of waste contractors, Prochem has employed the services of Grundon Waste Management to increase its recycling rates.

Consequently, the separation and recycling of further elements of waste including coloured paper, magazines, envelopes, metals, HDPE and PET plastic bottles commenced.

The move has resulted in a significant reduction in the amount of general waste produced by the plant’s manufacturing and office activities, says the company.
