When two-year old bulldog and aspiring author Lottie picked up a pen that had dropped on the carpet and started chewing it blue ink spots were soon flying about the room.

Cue the arrival the next day of Mrs Jay Dash, owner of Wiltshire-based Shalbourne Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning, although fully booked, still ready to prioritise an existing client and help clear up.

Suspecting the stains to be water soluble, Jay still pre-tested a couple of products before landing on Prochem’s E848 Ink Solv as the most effective solution.

It was then a process of using a cotton-tipped bud tip dipped in the chemical and gently rolling the solution onto the stain to be absorbed thoroughly before rinse extracting.

E848 Ink Solv is a water-based emulsifying stain remover aimed at dealing with inks, paints, glues and nail varnish. It is also capable of helping to remove adhesive residue left behind after taking up protective walk-on plastic sheeting that decorators lay down.

Pre & post-canine chaos

The clean-up took Jay about an hour and her householder was delighted with the response and service from Shalbourne.

Jay decided to start her new venture back in 2020 from an office-based role and got up to speed by attending Prochem training courses and buying a Prochem AX500 Galaxy machine and a van.

It was a slow start due to Covid but once her branding was finalised, the courses completed, Jay’s promotional and people skills did the rest.

Fortunate to be in a relatively prosperous area of Wiltshire and being a focused female businesswoman, it wasn’t long before she drew a strong client base from householders and notably women.

Jay started to reinvest in her ever-growing business with new equipment and further training, joining the National Carpet Cleaning Association (NCCA) and becoming a WoolSafe® Approved Service Provider.

To understand more about stain removal techniques and the skills that Jay has learnt, consider coming on a Prochem Stain Removal course.
