Peter Whiddon: and the new ‘jewel’ in his family cleaning business
The name Acorn may suggest that Peter Whiddon is new to carpet care: but in fact he cleaned his first carpet back in 1982, subsequently set up a carpet and flooring supply and fitting service – and continues to thrive.
Peter set up Acorn Carpet Care to service homeowners and commercial businesses from across London and the South East with the finest in carpet and upholstery cleaning and stain prevention services.
Now he’s super-charging his service offer with a Prochem Europe Sapphire SS370 truck mount and a newcomer to the team in youngest son, Philip, while elder son, Marc takes over running the family’s carpet and flooring retail business.
‘I saw the Sapphire in a news item in Prochem’s Cleaning Specialist magazine,’ he tells us.
‘The technological advances of recent years are staggering,’ he reflects. ‘This new machine is superior to anything I’ve used. It’s so powerful and fast-drying it gets through work very quickly and is making more money than I imagined.’

Another key benefit for Peter is the reach of the hoses; at 250 ft, they mean his van can be parked up well away from the premises without any detriment to the job.
‘It’s fantastic – a lovely machine and the service from Prochem is second to none,’ he says. Based in Chingford, London E4, Acorn’s catchment area covers London, Essex, Hertfordshire and Middlesex with a mix of domestic and a growing amount of commercial work.
